In just a month, Laurel and Hardywood, the 19th International Sons of the Desert Convention, will begin! The registration deadline is only 10 days away. The all-access pass and single ticket sales only are available until Wednesday, June 11.
I sent out information (below) a month ago about the mobility scooter, getting hotel rooms and the convention goodie bag. At this point, just a few tents have sent items for the goodie bag. It has been a long-time tradition for tents or individuals to sponsor a “favor” for convention delegates.
Here is a suggestion for tents or individuals that want to contribute, but don’t know what to send. Sponsorships are available for some goodies we’d like to offer during the convention. Your sponsorship would guarantee Laurel and Hardywood attendees will enjoy some of the following extras:
- Photo of each delegate ($5 per person) – approximate cost $1,100
- Dessert at the Pottsville gathering ($1 per delegate) – approximate cost $225
- Sponsorship of one of the small convention event brochures – $150
- Water and snack for delegates during bus tour – $100
- Snack for film program – $75
- Water for delegates during bus tour – $50
- Name in convention program book – $50
Sponsors can send a check for the amount noted next to the listed item and full credit will be given for your donation. Make checks payable to Robert Satterfield, PO Box 448, Patton, CA 92404. Please email me if you decide to sponsor one of these goodie items so I can keep track of what has been taken care of and what remains on the list.
If a tent or individual still plans to send goodies for the bags, see the information below about mailing instructions and deadlines. Thank you in advance for your “favor.”
Please remind your tent members to go to the convention website, www.laurelandhardywood.com, to register, check for the latest news and/or to sign up for e-mail alerts. As Laurel and Hardywood nears, updates are being issued more frequently. The celebrity guest list is growing each week! There now are only a few more spaces left for the Wild Goose/Queen Mary pre-convention trip.
There will be announcements soon about the film programs and more guests, of course. I also have information about renting a mobility scooter for the run of the convention. Members who need this assistance should contact me directly for rental details. Also, if members are having a hard time booking discounted rooms at the hotel, please let me know and I will see what I can do. In addition, we have matched up several Sons looking for roommates.
If your tent is interested in supplying items for the convention goodie bag, here is what you need to know:
Send your items! (Please do not bring them to the convention as the bags will be prepared the weekend before the convention begins and there will be no time to add items.)
Mail goodie bag items to: Robert Satterfield * P.O. Box 448 * Patton, CA 92369
If using UPS, and an address is needed instead of a P.O. Box, send items to:
Robert Satterfield * San Gorgonio High School * 2299 East Pacific Street * San Bernardino, CA 92404
Although the convention registration count is just over 200 now, we expect to have at least 250 persons attend Laurel and Hardywood.
All goodie bag items are welcome and need to be mailed to either of the above addresses by Stan Laurel’s birthday – June 16th. Items that arrive late will not be distributed in goodie bags. (I live 70 miles away from the convention site and will not be returning home once I head to Hollywood.)
Let me know if you have any questions. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you in July!
