Hey Jitterbugs:
Hope you are enjoying this preview of the 19th International Convention of the Sons of the Desert. Laurel and Hardywood will continue one year from today. We board the now familiar coach buses in the morning at the hotel and go to Santa Monica where you will be able to take a picture outside of Stan’s lovely Oceana Apartment. Then on to Culver City where you will get to do a walking tour of L&H film locations on Main Street Culver City (the shortest Main Street in the World). Lunch will be on your own at suggested restaurants that appeared in the background of a Laurel and Hardy film. You also will get to watch Leave ‘Em Laughing and Putting Pants on Philip inside the Culver Hotel. This will be another chance to view the films at the very location they were made!
Visits to the boys’ final resting places along with a few of their supporting players will be arranged on the way back to the hotel.
The final banquet will be at Pottsville! That’s right, we will visit Heritage Square near Pasadena where the actual Palms Station (used in Berth Marks as the Pottsville Station) has been moved and restored. A picnic dinner will be served and a screening of Berth Marks and Hal Roach’s Our Gang Comedy Pigskin Palooka will be enjoyed, again at the actual location where the film was made!
Don’t give up yet there still is another FULL convention day tomorrow!
Remember: Reserve your room at the Loews Hollywood Hotel now while we still have rooms available in our block. If calling the hotel, mention Laurel and Hardywood to get the $199 special room rate.
Until tomorrow,
Bob Satterfield
All convention events still are in the planning stages and some contracts have not be finalized, thus the order of events may be changed or moved to another day or omitted. At this point, I am 90 percent sure these events will come off as planned.
